principal - Paul Summers
Paul Summers is the principal and founder of summerslegal.
Paul was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme
Court of Western Australia in 1985 after completing his articles
of clerkship with Parker & Parker (now Freehills). Paul
commenced practicing as a sole practitioner and from 1989
practiced in partnership under the firm name of Summers
Partners.
The firm changed its name to summerslegal.
Under Paul’s direction the firm has grown from a sole practice to a
medium sized law firm employing around six lawyers and having a
sound and diverse client base.
Before studying law Paul worked with the Department of Tourism both
in Western Australia and New South Wales as well as working in
private enterprise. This experience means that Paul has been able to
provide helpful and substantive advice to clients of summerslegal on
the establishment of several tourism and resort projects in Western
Australia. In fact summerslegal has
gained a solid reputation for providing advice to the tourism and
resort industry.
Paul is also a former officer of the Australian Stock Exchange,
Perth. This experience promoted his interest in the areas of
business development and mergers and acquisitions.
Paul practices predominantly in the areas of commercial property,
business and corporate law and has particular expertise in the areas
of corporate advisory, capital raisings, mergers and acquisitions,
managed investments and property syndication and development.
Known for his role as adviser to the automotive industry, Paul
continues to act for both State and National vehicle retailers and
distributors.
Having a long and varied experience in the commercial and
property arena, Paul has a high level of understanding of commercial
legal issues.
In 2006 Paul established the insolvency accounting firm summerscorporate which
today has secured a substantial portion of the insolvency advisory
sector of Western Australia. The establishment of summerscorporate which
saw the legal practice become “multidisciplinary”, taking advantage
of the new statutory regime applying to Western Australian legal
practices.
In recent years Paul has also undertaken a corporate advisory
role in the mining and resources sector holding directorships in
various mining companies operating in locations throughout Central
Asia. Paul has been involved in the acquisition of offshore mergers
involving Canadian, United Kingdom and Kyrgyzstan corporate resource
interests. He continues to take an active role in the energy sector
in Central Asia.
