Involved in a motor vehicle accident? What are my obligations?
Each jurisdiction will have specific laws in place dictating the obligations of a driver involved in a car accident. But in general, in the event of an accident, a driver should stop at the scene of a crash and provide:
- Name
- Address
- Registration number
- And any other information necessary in identifying the vehicle (the required particulars)
This information should be provided, within the required time, and if practicable, at the scene of the crash to the other driver, any person injured, and the owner of any property damaged. The information may also be provided to any of these parties’ representatives.
